Use our Geofencing and Cart Stop technology to maintain high-quality course conditions, ensure player safety and for automated, real-time protection for sensitive turf.
How to draw a Geofence
Navigate to Geofence Settings.
Step 2: Add a Geofence Group
Click Add Geofence Group and give it a clear name (e.g., Cart Path Only).
Assign a color code for easy identification on the map.
Set the group status to Active.
Please note:
When the entire geofence group is toggled off, none of the geofences in that group will be active on the course - even if individual fence toggles appear switched on. This setup helps you maintain visibility of which geofences were previously active while creating or adjusting new fences live.
When the geofence group is toggled on, all geofences within that group that are individually toggled on will be active/live on the course. You can still toggle off specific fences if you’d like them to remain inactive.
Any geofence toggled off - whether individually or as part of a group - will not, and should never, be active/live on your golf course.
Step 3: Configure Settings
Device Type: Choose Cart-only, Walker-only, or Both.
Breach Notifications: Decide if operators should be notified when breached.
Player Alerts include the following (choose one)
Subtle pop-up
Audible alert (most common)
No alert (operator-only notification)
Visibility & Cart Stop: Decide if players see the fence on their device.
Enable Cart Stop if carts must halt within the boundary and set a buffer if needed.
Active Time: Set the geofence to run 24/7 or a custom schedule.
Step 4: Save the Geofence Group
Click Save New Group to finalize settings.
Once a group is created, draw and refine geofences directly on the course map.
Open the Group
Select your geofence group and click Add Geofence.
Name the fence (e.g., Hole One) and add a player message that will display if breached.
Navigate the Map
Use the hash mark to locate your position.
Zoom in and drag the map to your desired area.
Set Parameters
Start with Hole One, including tee box, fairway, and green.
Account for GPS accuracy:
1–3 m (1-3 yds) near cart paths
3–5 m (3-5 yds) under heavy tree cover or near water.
Place Points & Draw Fence
Position the first point slightly off the cart path.
Click to add points along the perimeter.
For straight stretches, use fewer points; for curves, add more for precision.
Close the loop by clicking the first point.
Save
Turn off Active Play (if enabled) before saving.
Click Save and confirm successful creation.
Add More Fences
To create another fence, select Add Geofence and repeat the process.
Select Fence to Edit
In the geofence group, click Edit next to the fence.
Adjust Points
Drag existing points to refine the shape.
Click white dots to delete unnecessary points.
Finalize Changes
Click Update to save edits.
How to Change your Geofence Colors
Go to the superintendent module geofence settings.
Locate the group in which you want to change the color of the geofences.
Press settings on the right side of the group.
At the top left, click on the color inkblot icon.
Select your new color.
Press save at the bottom right.
Cart Stop Geofences automatically stop carts within a restricted zone (e.g., greens or environmentally sensitive areas).
Create a Geofence Group
In Geofence Settings, select New Group and name it clearly (e.g., Cart Stop Greens).
Choose the Cart Stop preset to load default stopping rules.
Draw the Boundary
Use the map tool to draw the protected area precisely.
Keep boundaries tight to avoid false triggers.
Customize the Alert Message
Write a clear message for golfers explaining the stop (e.g., “Cart access restricted—please reverse out”).
Include simple instructions for reversing.
Finalize Settings
Set the rule to Cart Only.
Enable Sound + Pop-up Alerts.
Confirm the schedule is active.
Save the settings.
Test the Fence
Drive a cart into the zone to confirm:
Forward motion stops.
Reverse motion works.
Message and sound alert trigger correctly.
Turn off Active Play before creating or editing geofences to avoid disrupting live operations.
Maintain safe distances from cart paths to prevent unintended breaches.
Always include a custom message for clarity- blank messages may confuse players.
Use consistent naming conventions for groups and fences (e.g., Hole1_Fairway).
Color-code fences for quick visual identification.
Regularly review and update geofences to reflect course changes.
Train staff to test and maintain geofences for reliable operation.
Geofencing creates digital boundaries around specific areas of the property. These boundaries are flexible and can be customized to fit the daily needs of the course.
Adjustable Templates: Toggle boundaries on or off based on weather, maintenance schedules, or special events.
Automated Player Alerts: The system triggers an immediate alert if a cart enters a restricted zone.
2Way Screens: Players receive a visual and audible prompt on the 8-inch screen.
Classic Devices: A buzzer sounds to notify the player of the breach.
Data & Accountability: Every breach is recorded, allowing management to track the time, location, and driver responsible for the transgression.
The Cart Stop feature adds active control to geofencing. If a player ignores an initial alert and continues into a restricted area, the system simply stops/ cuts power.
Disabling Forward Motion: Forward movement is automatically disabled once a geofence is breached.
Mandatory Reverse: To re-engage the cart, the player must shift into reverse and exit the zone. Forward motion only returns once the cart is back on a designated path.
Universal Compatibility: This functionality works across both Tagmarshal’s 2Way and Classic Installed units.
Automating cart management leads to significant improvements in efficiency and course longevity:
| Benefit | Impact on Operations |
| Turf Preservation | Protects wet fairways, newly seeded areas, and hazards from heavy traffic. |
| Reduced Staff Labor | Replaces physical monitoring with automated compliance, freeing up staff. |
| Player Self-Correction | Audible and visual cues prompt players to redirect without staff intervention. |
| Strategic Planning | Breach logs identify confusing areas, helping management improve signage or paths. |
The cart stop feature will only work if you have the cart stop unit installed in your carts
