Troubleshooting Geofences Not Appearing on the Dashboard

Fix Geofence Visibility, Geofences are not Visible on your Map

Troubleshooting Geofences Not Appearing on the  Dashboard

This is an issue that can stem from a simple setting misconfiguration. The good news is that the fix is straightforward and typically resolves the problem in under a minute. This guide walks you through the most frequent causes and provides clear, step-by-step instructions to restore visibility of your geofences.

Why Are My Geofences Not Showing Up?

The primary reason geofences fail to appear on the Tag 4.0 dashboard is due to the geofence visibility toggle being turned off. Even if geofences are correctly created and assigned to devices, they will remain hidden if the display setting is disabled. This setting is designed to give users control over what’s shown on the map, but it can be accidentally toggled off.

In some cases, users also report that geofences appear in the device settings but not on the main map view. This further confirms that the issue lies in the display configuration rather than the geofence data itself.

Scenario1: How to Enable Geofence Visibility on the Dashboard

To ensure your geofences appear on the map, follow these steps:

  1. Open  your Tagmarshal Dashboard, then navigate to the sidebar menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
  2. Click on Settings to access the configuration options.
  3. Look for the Show Geofence option. This setting is usually located under the map or visualization section.
  4. Check the visibility toggle—specifically, the eye icon next to the option. If the icon is crossed out, it means geofences are currently hidden.
  5. Tap the eye icon to enable geofence display. Once activated, the cross should disappear, and the geofences will begin appearing on the map.

This simple toggle is the most common fix for missing geofences. If the geofences still don’t appear after enabling this setting, proceed to the next section to rule out other potential causes.

Scenario2: Confirming Geofence Data Is Correctly Assigned

Even with visibility enabled, geofences may not show if they aren’t properly linked to a device or location.

Ensure that:
  • The geofence has been assigned to a specific device or group of devices.
  • The device is online and actively sending location data.
  • The geofence coordinates are valid and within a reasonable, signal range  (e.g., not set to an unreachable or invalid location like the middle of the ocean).

If a geofence is created but not assigned, it will exist in the system but won’t appear on the map. Double-check the device’s geofence assignment under the device’s profile or location settings.

Scenario3: Refreshing the Map and Reconnecting the App

To force a refresh after enabling a new setting:

  • Close the Tag 4.0 app completely and reopen it.
  • Navigate back to the dashboard and wait a few seconds for the map to reload.
  • If using a web browser, try hard refreshing the page (Ctrl + F5 or Cmd + Shift + R).

This clears any cached data and ensures the latest configuration is loaded. In rare cases, users have reported that geofences only appear after a full app restart, so this step is worth trying if the issue persists.

Scenario4: Checking for Device-Specific or Account-Level Restrictions

If geofences still don’t appear after verifying visibility, settings, and device assignments, consider whether there are account-level permissions or device-specific restrictions in place.

  • Ensure you’re logged in with an account that has admin or full access rights.
  • If you’re using a shared account, confirm that the geofence was created by a user with the appropriate permissions.
  • Some clubs use role-based access controls that limit what users can see. If you’re not an admin, contact your team’s administrator or the customer success team to verify visibility settings.

What If the Problem Persists?

If you’ve completed all the above steps and geofences still aren’t visible, it’s possible there’s a temporary sync delay or a backend issue. In such cases:

  • Please wait 5–10 minutes and check again. The system may be processing updates.
  • Ensure your internet connection is stable, as poor connectivity can prevent map data from loading.
  • If the issue persists, reach out to Tagmarshal support with a screenshot of your current settings and a description of the steps you’ve taken. Support teams can verify backend data and assist with deeper diagnostics.

 Tips for Preventing Future Issues

To avoid geofences disappearing again:

  • Make it a habit to double-check the Show Geofence toggle after making any changes to your dashboard settings.
  • Use consistent naming for geofences so you can quickly identify them in the list.
  • Regularly review device assignments and ensure all active devices have the correct geofences linked.
